Crankcase Vent Filter Replacement

Back

The crankcase vent filter is installed in the high end sports cars and also in some of the vintage cars as well. The rationale of having a crankcase vent filter is that with the continued combustion inside the engine, exhaust gases build up and sometimes gain entry into the crankcase where they offer resistance to the movement of the pistons. So in order to keep them from gaining entry into the crankcase, the crankcased vent filter is installed. The signs of faulty crankcase vent filter include the following: Appearance of oil on the engine surface Leaking of the seals Reduced responsiveness of the engine

Our recommendation:

With continued usage, the crankcase vent filter is clogged with oil. As per the manufacturer’s recommendations, the crankcase vent filter should be checked whenever the air filter is inspected and replaced whenever the spark plugs are replaced.
